情人节又称“圣瓦伦丁节”，起源于古代罗马。由于战争频繁，暴君下令青壮年必须以生命为国家效劳并禁止国人结婚。修士瓦伦丁不忍看到爱侣的生离死别，便为他们秘密主持婚礼。最终瓦伦丁在2月14日这天被暴君处死，人们便把这天定为“情人节”纪念他。
